Storm & emergency call-out

Emergency Gutter Cleaning, Sydney

Water actively coming in during a storm? Call us on (02) 8046 3312. We prioritise genuine active-water-ingress jobs across Marrickville, Newtown, Balmain, Leichhardt, Ashfield and the surrounding suburbs, and we’ll always give you an honest ETA.

Overflowing gutters find the weakest point in your home.

When a gutter overflows during a storm, the water doesn’t just spill harmlessly onto the ground below. It looks for the lowest, weakest point in the system, a box gutter buried between party walls, a join that’s already started to fail, a section of fascia that’s been slowly rotting unnoticed. Once it finds that point, it can move sideways under roof sheeting or down inside a wall cavity well before it shows up as a visible drip inside.

This is especially relevant for the kind of housing stock common across the Inner West. Federation terraces and semis with box gutters shared across party walls, the kind you’ll find throughout Newtown and Balmain, are a common failure point, since a blockage on either side of the boundary can send water into a shared wall cavity rather than out onto the street. Older downpipe systems overwhelmed by a sudden, heavy debris load during high wind are another frequent cause.

None of this is cause for panic. It’s a reason to get the active blockage cleared properly, rather than just watching it and hoping the rain lets up first.

What’s included in an emergency call-out.

1

Rapid assessment

We identify where the water’s actually getting in, not just where it’s visible, since the entry point and the overflow point aren’t always the same spot.

2

Clearing the active blockage

Our first priority is stopping water ingress by clearing whatever’s causing the immediate overflow, safely and as quickly as conditions allow.

3

Temporary vs permanent fix, explained honestly

Sometimes clearing the blockage is the full fix. Other times we’ll put a temporary measure in place to get you through the rest of the storm, and quote a permanent repair separately once it’s safe to assess properly.

4

Photo documentation

We photograph the issue and the work carried out, giving you a documented record that can be useful if you decide to make an insurance claim.

Common storm-related gutter issues we see.

Overflowing box gutters

Box gutters buried between party walls on Federation terraces and semis are a common overflow point, especially when a blockage sits right at the party wall boundary.

Downpipes overwhelmed by sudden debris

A storm can dump a season’s worth of leaf litter and small branches into a downpipe in minutes, overwhelming a system that was coping fine the day before.

Gutters pulled away from the fascia

Storm-driven debris adds weight fast. A gutter already under strain can pull away from its brackets under the sudden extra load.

Blocked stormwater causing water ingress

Where ground-level stormwater drainage is also struggling, overflow from the roof compounds with pooling at ground level, increasing the risk of water finding its way inside.

An honest word on response times.

We’d rather tell you the truth than promise something we can’t deliver. On a normal day, an isolated call-out is usually straightforward to get to quickly. During a major storm event affecting the whole Inner West at once, every gutter service in the area gets busy at the same time, and we’re no exception.

What we commit to is prioritising genuine active-water-ingress calls, water actually coming into a home, ahead of general overflow or preventative requests, and giving you a realistic, honest ETA the moment you call rather than a vague “we’ll try.” If your situation involves structural risk or an electrical hazard, contact emergency services first, that’s outside what a gutter call-out can safely address.

Realistic expectations, set upfront, beat a rushed promise we can’t keep.

Questions we get about storm call-outs.

How fast can you come during a storm?

It depends on how widespread the storm is. For an isolated issue on a normal day, we can often get to you same-day. During a major storm event affecting the whole Inner West at once, response times will be busier than usual, and we’ll give you an honest ETA rather than promise something we can’t deliver.

Is a storm call-out covered by insurance?

That depends on your policy and insurer, we’re not insurance advisers and can’t confirm cover. What we can do is document the issue and our work with photos at the time of call-out, which is useful if you do need to make a claim.

What if it happens after hours or overnight?

Call us and leave a message with your address and what’s happening, we monitor calls closely during active storm periods and will get back to you with a genuine ETA as soon as we can. For a life-safety emergency, like structural damage or electrical risk, contact emergency services first.

How do you prioritise calls during a big storm?

We prioritise genuine active-water-ingress calls, water actively coming into a home, over general overflow or preventative requests. If several calls come in at once, active ingress into a living area jumps the queue ahead of everything else.

Do you fix the problem permanently on the call-out, or just make it stop for now?

Our first priority is clearing the active blockage so water stops coming in. Sometimes that’s the full fix. Other times it’s a temporary measure to get you through the rest of the storm, with a permanent repair quoted separately once conditions are safe to properly assess the damage.

Do you provide photos I can use for an insurance claim?

Yes. We photograph the issue on arrival and again once we’ve cleared it, which gives you a documented record of the active blockage and the work carried out, useful if you decide to lodge a claim.
